LNK is a file extension for a shortcut file used by Microsoft Windows to point to an executable file. LNK stands for LiNK. Shortcut files are used as a direct link to an executable file, instead of having to navigate to the executable.. LNK files contain some basic properties, such as the path to the executable file and the “Start-In” directory. LNK files use a curled arrow to indicate they are shortcuts, and the file extension is hidden (even after disabling “Hide Extensions for Known File Types” in Windows Explorer).

A co-worker must have changed the file associations for '.LNK' shortcut files. All the shortcuts on her desktop are now the wrong icons and all try to start Windows Media Player, when clicked on. I'd like to change the file association for.LNK files. It seems straightforward to change this. Copyright 2013 by Hotspotgaming1. What happens here is that you have file association corruption. This changes all your file extension into.lnk. Assoc.lnk=lnkfile assoc.msi=Msi.Package assoc.reg=regfile assoc.scr=scrfile assoc.txt=txtfile assoc.URL=InternetShortcut assoc.vbs=VBSFile assoc.zip=CompressedFolder. If you still cannot run an executable file after fixing the file association, there may also be a problem with the file type association as well.
I have come to suffer from a.lnk malfuction. Without realizing I used 'open with' to tell my windows that I wanted all my.lnk files to be opened through the computer game Sacred2. I have searched various places for solutions and have seen most of the suggestions. Running a.reg file with regedit corrections didn't help.
